6 Thoughts Everyone Has At The Beach

Because life is a beach and I'm just playing in the sand

Summer, it's when there are no classes, almost unlimited free time, and of course, warm weather. Some spend these days getting small jobs, sleeping all day, or, like me, go to the beach everyday. Whether you're a frequent beach goer or you've only been to the beach once, you have probably had every single one of these thoughts.

1. There is so much freaking sand.

Where did it all come from? Why is there so much? How is it already all over me when I've been here for two minutes? Sand gets in places where no one ever thought was even imaginable, and on everything. Brought lunch? I guarantee somehow you start chewing on sand; it's unavoidable. I really feel for those parents whose little kids just take handfuls of sand and start eating it. On really hot days sand can be almost as hot as the street cement and even leave blisters on your feet.

Helpful tip: Bring baby powder with you for when you are getting ready to leave the beach. After washing your feet, let them dry for a little then put the powder on. Sand won't stick to you!

2. One word: Seaweed.

This is by far the worst thing at the beach, worse than getting sand in your lunch. It's green, slimy, and overall a horrible experience altogether. The seaweed will completely cover the shore, and if you dare go in the water you'll find seaweed wrapped around your body and also in unmentionable places.

Helpful tip: Most beaches are long and have different sections. Usually, seaweed isn't going to cover the whole beach. For example, at Jones Beach if field 6 is covered in seaweed, try field 4.

3. "Ugh, I wish I looked that good in a bathing suit."

We all have our confidence issues at the beach. Whether there's a guy with an insane six pack or a girl with a flatter stomach then you thought even possible, these thoughts always happen just keep your head up!

Helpful tip: Wear your favorite bathing suit it'll make you feel good. Unless it's a speedo. PLEASE KEEP THOSE AT HOME.

4. Why is everyone so annoying?

Whether it's the family with children who are uncontrollable and throwing sand everywhere, the couple who are just getting too into putting sunscreen on, or the people who decide to sit right next to you when there is literally an ENTIRE beach around you, there are so many annoying people.

Helpful tip: These are a little hard to avoid, so either go for a nice walk, plug in some earphones, or even say something if it gets to be a huge problem.

5. What is going on with the sky today?

Either it's too cloudy, and almost too cold, for the beach or the sun is almost too unbearable. It happens especially if you don't pay attention to the weather. Also, if you're an early riser or someone who like to stay at the beach late, stick around for a sunset or come super early for the sunrise. I promise it is so worth it.

Helpful tip: BRING SUNBLOCK. The weather does not matter, in fact you're more likely to get sunblock when it's cloudy because you don't feel the sun as much. Try to avoid becoming a lobster, and put at least a little sunblock on.

6. We are coming back tomorrow, right?

The sand may be hot and annoying, the seaweed may be your worst enemy, or the screaming kids might give you headaches, but there is nowhere you'd rather be than relaxing on the beach this summer.

Helpful tip: Just enjoy it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
