If you are anything like me you have been following Taylor Swift's Instagram religiously lately seeing who is the next superstar set to make an appearance in her new music video. And just when I thought that the cast couldn't get any better, she released another A-lister to make the cast that much more amazing. I swear her squad makes me jealous on a daily basis. Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Serayah, Haley Williams, Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt, Ellie Goulding, Lena Dunham, Cindy Crawford, and of course, the original badass, Mariska Hargitay! And that's not even all of them...
If you aren't a Swiftie, then here is a little background information about the song: it is rumored to be about Katy Perry who stole a bunch of Taylor's tour staff from right under her. There were also little comments that Katy would make to Taylor making Taylor think that she couldn't tell if Katie was her best friend or her worst enemy. I can definitely attest to having those kind of friendships, but usually mine don't result in an amazing, chart-topping song ... Just a lot of subtweets.
Taylor is definitely the queen of turning lemons into lemonade, or rather amazing pop hits, and "Bad Blood" is no exception. The music video starts with a fight scene with Taylor Swift as Catastrophe and Selena Gomez as Arsyn, kicking butt in an office building, all in pursuit of a suitcase. And suddenly, Arysn turns on Catastrophe and pushes her out a window. That's when Catastrophe goes to Welvin Da Great, played by Kendrick Lamar, and Lucky Fiori, played by Lena Dunham, for a completely badass makeover. Her posse helps train her for the inevitable showdown with Arysn at the end.
I will say that I was a bit worried when I saw so many headlining names for the cast of this music video; most thoughts were about how they were going to keep this music video under an hour. I think Joseph Kahn did an awesome job highlighting each of the amazing talents without drawing it out for too long—all of the women in this video looked so badass and sexy...I can't! And as if that wasn't enough, Twitter even made her an emoji to celebrate the occasion.
I think it was an excellent concept for the video, and I can only imagine that it was really fun to shoot because she got to do it with all of her friends. I think that Taylor Swift continues to show her inner strength and girl power. I have loved the cinematic approach to her past three music videos from "1989" ("Blank Space," "Style," "Bad Blood"), and I think that it is so awesome to tell a story with music—especially when you can tell a story that is that amazing.
Here are just some of the stills from the music video:
So if that isn't already enough proof that you need to see this music video, here it is for you to view for yourself.
Watch it, and obsess with me!
