Let's be honest. For most of us, packing to go anywhere is a struggle. Despite having watched countless videos on how to be an efficient packer, hours of careful planning, and psyching ourselves up for it-
It's still next to impossible to actually DO it.
The task of trying to maximize the space of your moving supplies while still making it all easy and efficient to move is quite daunting. I'm sitting here staring at the list I've compiled of all of the things that I'm planning on packing and bringing to college to establish a new "home base" for the semester, and trying to figure out how it's all going to fit in the few totes that I have set aside looking less possible by the minute. Even with the knowledge that it's been done before without a problem, packing doesn't become easier. There will always be thoughts of "What if it doesn't all fit?" and "Did I pick the right outfits to wear?" and "Did I pack my deodorant? I really hope so or else I'm gonna have some problems," among other things. There are few things more disappointing than wanting to wear the perfect outfit and realizing that you left it at home.
The main issue that some people have when packing is deciding which clothes to pack. Trying to make sure that there are enough weather appropriate clothes for whatever nature decides to throw is easily one of the most stressful aspects of packing. Making sure that there are enough articles of clothing to help keep cool in the summer heat as well as be versatile enough to work with an autumn-to-winter outfit can be fairly challenging. However, there is a somewhat obvious answer to this conundrum: the T-shirt. A T-shirt can be the absolute best article of clothing for year round usage, being cool enough to wear in the blazing sun of summer and easy to pair with a jacket to combat the bitter winds of autumn and winter.
Despite the best of efforts, over-packing ends up being an inevitability in most cases. Whether too many clothes have been packed, books are taking up more room than anticipated, or some other unexpectedly large item takes up way more than initially thought, some other box or bag has to be found to accommodate the change.
Despite all of the issues and struggles that are faced while packing, it is one of the necessary evils of life. And despite how inconvenient it may seem, it always leads to one of the more pleasant activities: unpacking, settling in to a new place, and making it your own!
Just keep in mind that you'll have to pack it all up again at some point down the line.
