In the recent presidential election, Donald J. Trump was voted to be the next president of the United States of America. Although there were millions of people thrilled about this event, there were also millions who were not. Those who were not so ecstatic about this election are actually pretty hypocritical when it comes to their reasonings as to why he isn't a good President Elect.
We all have our own beliefs and that will always cause controversy throughout our nation; however, some of our own citizen's statements about Trump, I believe, are actually pathetic.
One of the many reasons some people think Donald Trump will not make a good president is because of his remarks about women. Well, let’s take a look at this, shall we? Trump is not the first man to ever put down a woman because of her looks. There are men who do it every day. Whether they are putting down their wife, their daughter, or even a random girl they see in the supermarket for their looks or size, men do it every single day. But let’s not just put this on men; women are culprits of the matter too. You can walk around your school or down a street and see a girl being laughed at or sitting in a corner crying, because some shallow girls made her feel ugly or not good enough. There is not a person who can truthfully say that they haven’t put down a woman for her looks. With that being said, should Trump be looked down upon for something that we all do every day of our lives? I think not.
Another reason Trump receives a lot of hate is because of his views on same-sex marriage. As previously mentioned, we all have our own beliefs. When the amendment was passed for gay-marriage to be allowed in all fifty states, everyone expressed how they felt on social media. If you were for the matter, people knew it. If you were against the matter, people knew it. All Donald Trump does is express his beliefs on the matter, just like every other citizen of this great country. How can one bash him for voicing his beliefs when each of us has expressed ours? This goes back to my point of people being hypocrites. One cannot expect to be praised for putting their beliefs out there and then want to punish others for doing the same thing. If you think that Trump is the problem for speaking about what he believes in, but you expect to be bowed down upon for what you believe in, then you are a problem, not him.
Although there are many other reasons people have for thinking Donald Trump will be a terrible president, I’m going to wrap it up with the biggest one of them all; the "building a wall" controversy. Now, I’m not saying that there aren’t flaws in his plans to build a wall between Mexico and the United States because there are. We are allies with Mexico and they are a huge trading partner; however, I can also see Trump’s point of view. There is so much money being lost in the United States, because of immigrants. Although there isn’t a record of how much money undocumented immigrants send to their friends or family in Mexico, it is estimated that there is about $24 billion being sent across the border each year. Over the years, this amount will continue to grow larger and larger. While people across the border are getting our money from illegal immigrants, there are so many of our veterans who fought for this country living on the streets. Are undocumented immigrants giving our money away to those across the border more important or saving our veterans who risked their lives? I do believe the answer is saving our veterans.
Our country prides itself on being free and having the right to freedom of speech. People will always disagree and have their own beliefs, but they cannot expect not to be bashed for doing so if they do it to others. Trump will be our next president, whether people agree or not. He may have his faults, but he is only human, just like the rest of us. He will make some mistakes and that is to be expected. You may have learned about politics in civics class and maybe you think you know everything about it, but until you have stepped into the shoes of someone in the office or about to be in office, stop being so hypocritical. It is sad and pathetic. Each of us are free to live our lives as we please and to discover ourselves. Part of being an American is to be proud of the place we get to call home and to love it with all we have, regardless of who is running it, because we are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth. Everyone needs to open their eyes to this concept and just be happy that they even get to live here and have the opportunity to be free.
