As much as we would like time to freeze time (mostly so Trump will not be inaugurated), the new year is thrust upon us once again. Goodbye 2016, hello 2017. And although it is a long running joke that 2016 was the "worst" year in history and we wish for the pain to end, let's just keep looking forward and hoping that 2017 will bring better times.

2017 is a chance to not necessarily completely start over, but a chance to improve. This new year brings with it new possibilities, and a new opportunity to reach your full and truest potential. The following are a few ways to do that:

1. Say yes to every new opportunity.

If you always say no and don't take advantage of new opportunities that present themselves to you, you could really miss out on some great opportunities that could potentially make you happy.

2. Do what makes you happy.

Which brings me to my next point, do whatever you can to make yourself happy, and don't let anyone or anything stand in your way.

3. Put yourself first.

Make yourself a priority, always.

We have yet another 365 days to get it right and make ourselves happy. Happy New Year everyone! 2017 is your year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
