This Isn't The Time To Be Silent Or Indifferent

As we've all heard, we have a new president elect and A LOT of people including myself are not thrilled, in fact we are actually pretty frightened. I have heard a lot of rebuttals and rationales over the last week about how Trump is not going to be bad for the LGBT community or any other minority community. This is a half truth at best because I followed the campaigns and political news for the last year and a half and I do not think I've ever heard Trump tell us his own opinion on anything really. I know he is against immigration and what not but the closest we got an opinion on the LGBT community was when he picked Mike Pence to be his VP. Pence is well known for his Anti-LGBT legislation including his belief in so called "conversion" therapy. I can agree that the republican party is not good for anyone but themselves. Over the last decade we have made significant progress in the way of human civil rights such as the legalization of same sex marriage. As you've probably also heard, people are protesting in mass numbers because of our ne president elect. I was following the #Trumpprotest on twitter the other night and it disturbed me in ways I didn't think were possible. Here is one example.

REALLY?! This is just one example as to why millennials are pissed. The popular vote was won by Hillary Clinton by a wide margin and yet we get a president elect whose rhetoric encourages this type of violence. Granted, I am a strong Hillary Clinton supporter and was crushed when she lost, but I would've gladly voted for anyone other than Donald Trump. Another thing I've been hearing lately is that millennials are being "cry babies". If not wanting our new president to be someone has been accused of sexually assaulting women and even got caught making disgusting remarks about how his celebrity status lets him do whatever he wants to women is being a cry baby then give me a damn sippy cup. Our generation at least from my point of view is feeling something very personal right now and its anger. I could go on and on about what Donald Trump has said and done but that would take too long. Instead here is another one of his supporters and their opinion on the protests.

I assume they meant to put tantrum after that but who knows. Actually no, no change has ever come by staying silent. Hence, the Stonewall riots. Hence, Selma and the African American Civil rights movement. In fact, I would argue that throwing temper tantrums are the only way to get something to change in this country. Millennials do not want this bigoted man as our president and we will make damn sure that you know it. This is my last example of the kind of hate that Donald Trump has inspired.

Spoiled and entitled are a little much. If anything we have had to work harder to get what we want than you have. We know what it is like to have a president who doesn't know what the hell they are doing and to vote another one into office is beyond me. It's like half of the country has forgotten whose fault it was that we went into the 2008 recession (George W. Bush) and who got us out of that hole and got out unemployment rate back under 5% (Barack Obama). Except this time it is worse because at least George W. Bush had a political background. Donald Trump doesn't even have that and he's about to learn how art it is to implement his "plans". I have already been hearing reports that he is going back on his promises so its only a matter of time. If we are all lucky, he will not make it to the presidency and me and people like me will do whatever we can to make sure he doesn't.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
