If you are a Christian who doesn't want to be challenged, who is comfortable with where they are, and is content in their walk with Christ, I recommend that you close this article before you continue any further. If you are a Christian who is quick to judge, slow to listen, and quick to speak, I recommend that you close this article. If you are a Christian and you want to grow in your relationship, while finding the strength and courage to both walk with people as well as carry those to the feet of Christ, I pray that God uses these words to ignite a fire in your soul so enormous that it is visible to all of those that surround you in your life and that neither worldly beings nor the Devil himself can stand in your way.
As Christians, I am concerned that we have forgotten how to be Christians. We have been told what to do by our families, pastors, and the Bible. We listen. We learn. We act. We grow. But for many, there seems to be a plateau in growth, and I am hoping this article will be a flame under your feet that helps you to jump the hurdle and gain momentum.
We, as Christians, do our best to be obedient and do Christian things. We wake up early on Sunday for church. We go to small group on Wednesdays to crack open the Bible with friends. We listen to Christian radio on the way to work or class. We do Christian things.
What I am worried about, is what is next, and what we have forgotten about.
And what that is, simply put, is living out the most important result. If all of that is to “add up” to something, like an equation, it would look like: church + small group + worship music + reading my Bible + other Christian things = loving others.
Christianity, in its most basic form, is loving others.
I am not here to say that every Christian is able to go out and carry others, but the purpose of all of those Christian things, is to fill yourself up with God’s love, and then let it overflow into others by you showing them His love.
I am not here to say that every person is capable of a mission trip to Africa, or leading a small group, or going to the deepest darkest corners of your city, but there are simpler ways to spread the love of God and I pray that you can find your niche.
As Christians, we are not called to go to church, go to small group, go to worship, and stay there. We are called to build the Church. We are called to leave and build the Kingdom. I always tell my friends that I hope I get to spend eternity in heaven with them, and i think the point of all of this stuff on earth is starting an eternity with everyone on it.
It is also important to realize that you can't continue to love without going back to the well to fill back up. Continue your pursuit of others, while continuing to allow others to pour into you, because the moment that you run dry, you will be too weak and incapable of caring for yourself, and how can one care for others if they cannot care for themselves?
Go out and love, but never forget to return to the One who loves you.
God, I pray that the reader of this knows how loved they truly are, by the One who created love itself. I pray that You give them the strength and lion-heartedness to carry those around them to Your feet, and that you give them the wisdom to continuously seek you and return to Your heart. I love you.
