Hello, Readers far and wide!
As college students, we've all faced the good, bad, and the F+ on assignments in college. Now, of course, we have those tests we really didn’t put our best foot forward in, but what about the ones you did? There have been a couple tests I thought I was prepared for but didn’t receive the grade I thought I studied for. As a personal college student, I have had my share of bad grades that I don't ever want to recall. After 3 years of college, I have gained some helpful tips and tricks to help me ace my test and assignments.
Do not Cram: Honestly, who are you helping?
Kudos to the ones that can study ten minutes before a test and pass. For the rest of us unlucky people, we need about a solid week to prepare. During that week, I have learned it isn't how long you study, but how many times. Taking the time to look at your notes 3 times a day for that week works better then for 6 hours straight the night before. The information will stick so you can ace that test.
Take notes like they are the key to success
Aren't they, though? Notes, handouts are basically what is on the test. Taking good notes and active listening to the teacher can increase your knowledge by eighty-five percent. Don't just go to class to be there but learn. Great notes lead to great study tools plus better understanding which equals an A+!
Organize Your Space
Am I the only one that can't focus in a cluttered space? When I study the room has to be clean from top to bottom so have no choice but to study. Clear space equals a clear mind! If you can't seem to get your mind to focus in that area try a different one. My second favorite place to study is the library. It is easy to find a quiet corner and get the work done.
Now how you gonna focus but you scrolling?
GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA!! There is nothing on your feed that will help you pass that test. Social media has become the biggest problem of focus, especially when it is so available. When studying power off your electronics that are not helping you studying. By not being preoccupied with other news and drama, you can focus on the task at hand.
Relax, Stretch, Breathe....It's just a test!
College feels like it is one big exam rolled into one. Sometimes we forget we are human and humans do have flaws. One one my key things to do before and during a test is to breathe. You can not focus on your information if you're too tensed to remember it. My greatest discovery was yoga in college. Yoga allows me to think clearly and relax enough to remember all my information. I also prepare the night before with good sleep(because we don't cram) so I can think clearly and prosper on the test.
All these tips can be customized to fit your lifestyle as a student. Set studying times that work for you and stick to it. As a student, I don't think there is any greater feeling than that A+ on a test or in Blackboard.
Happy Studying!
