Think Pink Week

Think Pink Week

From Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, Zeta Tau Alpha hosted a campus wide event called, Think Pink Week, when ZTA kicks off breast cancer awareness month with an event every day to help raise awareness. We began the week by painting the town pink -- chalking the sidewalks and tying pink ribbons around campus to inform students that it is breast cancer awareness month and to spread the word about our fundraising events. Every day we set up booths to pass out pink ribbons, self-check breast cancer cards, sell t-shirts and tell the campus about our events.

In past years, Zeta Tau Alpha has raised upwards of $40,000 from this week. Helping our cause is easy and delicious. We had a Chick-Fil-A night on Monday, Shakes on Tuesday and many of you may joined us at the Zeta Tau Alpha house on Thursday for Pink Pancakes. It was $5 at the door, or $10 for a wristband that gives you all you can eat pink pancakes on and entry into the Think Pink Carnival.

Saturday, Oct. 4, ZTA had the first ever Think Pink Carnival. It was held at The Gardens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There was lots of fun and participation from all Greek chapters on campus. The fun didn't end that afternoon -- at 7:30 p.m., everyone was encouraged to come out and support our Razorback hockey team for the Pink The Rink game. There was a donation table, players "pinked out", and watching our team never disappoints.

Zeta Tau Alpha is also organizing Pink Out games for girl’s soccer, volleyball and swimming and diving teams. These events will be held on the following dates.

Sunday, Oct. 5: girls soccer at 11 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 11: volleyball at 1 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 24: swimming and diving at 11 a.m.

Think Pink Week is very important to Zeta Tau Alpha. Breast cancer effects so many people’s lives and we are hoping to make a positive difference in any way we can. The special events we host not only help to increase awareness about early detection, but also raise money for education and research.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
