York County is definitely quite a place.

There's a lot of history built around our county and there's a lot to love. People usually complain about wanting to leave but not many ever really do.

There's people from pretty much all walks of life filling up every nook and cranny of our crazy home, but in some way or another we all relate to each other through these few things.

1. The York Fair is the highlight of your year

There's not a whole lot to do in York but when the fair rolls around that's where everyone goes. The rides are pretty sketchy and there's usually a fight breaking out somewhere, but the food is great and there's usually some pretty great acts in the Grand Stand that you can hear while walking around instead of paying for it. It's well worth the admission fee.

2. The Hot Rod Show is a close second

People line their chairs on Market Street, White Street, and all along 74 in order to see the Hot Rods drive to and from the Fair Grounds. It's one of the most interesting things to do around that time of year. Plus the cars are all pretty cool.

3. The Galleria Mall was a go to shopping spot

The mall has gained and lost popularity over the years but it's the only mall we have that has a Victoria's Secret, H&M, and Auntie Anne's Pretzels so we put up with it in order to get cute clothes and quality pretzel bites. Besides, if you don't want to go there you have to drive into Lancaster to go to Park City and let's be honest, no one realistically wants to drive to Park City in the middle of the week for some jeans.

4. The York Revolutions

Despite the insane traffic it causes downtown, I'm pretty sure we've all gone to a Revs game at one point or another. Seeing Downtown the mascot act a fool in the center of the baseball field is one of the only reasons people go, but the baseball team is actually getting pretty good so why not go and enjoy overpriced french fries and participate in pregame activities?

5. There's some pretty cool sights downtown

There's a lot of cool sculptures and murals in downtown York. The parking meters are painted because of when they were trying to "beautify the city" a few years ago. It's actually pretty nice when you take the time to stop and look at it.

6. The Central Market

The Central Market is in downtown York and it has so much character and diversity. There's food stands, craft stands, lemonade and tea stands, there's little cafes and candy shops. Sometimes there's even live music. So many people come downtown during the week to grab lunch with friends and walk around the city. I used to go with my mom every Thursday for lunches at the Greek salad stand in the market when I was younger.

7. People driving tractors to school isn't that weird

Dover, Spring Grove, Kennard-Dale, Northern, etc. I'm looking right at you. There's a lot of farms in York County, therefore, a lot of people with tractors. So, one, or several, days a year high school students drive their tractors to school in mass quantities and show them off. It makes zero sense to anyone outside of the county, but it's totally fine.

8. Roburrito's food is the best

Roburrito's is the place to go, pretty much whenever. Their food is affordable and downright addicting. People usually end up eating until the feel like they're going to explode but that's what happens when the food is that good. I'm pretty sure I ate there every day for a solid two weeks once, if that means anything.

9. You hate the train

This is more specific to the western part of the county but it still applies. The train is the bane of everyone's existence. No matter where you are if you're in a hurry its pretty much guaranteed that the train is going to appear, make you late, and ruin your day. Not to mention living by the train tracks or the station means you will be woken up by the train whistle at the butt crack of dawn.

10. You believe that route 30 is the WORST

For some reason, the worst drivers imaginable are on Route 30 ALL OF THE TIME. No one seems to remember how to drive and it makes you wonder how anyone in York County has an active license. Including the semi trucks that go at least 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and make you fear death Oh, and forget driving on Route 30 during rush hour. You're just going to sit still until your hair turns gray and your skin starts to wrinkle.

11. It smells everywhere you go

Spring Grove smells like chemicals and waste, thank you paper mill. Everywhere else pretty much smells like sewage, cow poop, skunks, or garbage. But growing up in York County means you've gone nose blind to all of the above until you leave and come back after a while. Then it's the worst.

12. Round The Clock Diner is basically your second home

Round The Clock is where you go with all of your friends in the middle of the night or early in the morning for coffee and comfort food. It's where a lot of us hold memories with our friends and family or just go to hang out, eat good food, and get away for a while.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
