Picture this. It is the day before I leave to study in Copenhagen, Denmark (across the world from where I live) for four months. You would think that I am packed and organized by now... well that statement is wrong. I have two open suitcases on my floor and my room looks like a tornado hit. So here is a list of necessities you need to study abroad that will hopefully help your packing go a lot better than mine is.

1. Passport

This is your ticket to going anywhere and everywhere so don't forget it!

2. Outlet adapter

All European countries have different outlets so pick up one (or a few) adapters for all of your prized electronics.

3. Reusable water bottle

You have to pay for water everywhere you go, so bring a reusable water bottle and your bank account and the environment will thank you.

4. Portable charger

Being stuck in a foreign country with a dead phone is not fun, so a way to prevent the inevitable it to bring a portable charger everywhere you go. Seriously bring it everywhere.

5. Contacts/Glasses

For you unlucky people (myself included) who need corrective lenses, being stuck in a foreign country without a way to see does not sound pleasant.

6. Crossbody bag with a zipper

Let's be real, pickpocketing happens a lot more than it should in Europe, so in order to prevent it wear a crossbody bag with a zipper that is hard to steal/open.

7. Comfortable (but cute) walking shoes

Blisters are the worst, so in order to avoid that problem wear shoes that are perfect for walking a lot. Whether it be adidas, cute tennis shoes, or super comfortable sandals, find shoes that won't give you any problems.

8. Foreign currency

US Dollars mean nothing abroad. This means you will need to become familiar with Euros and your countries form of currency as well as exchange rates.

9. Neutral clothing for layering

Packing your life in two suitcases is so hard. The only solution I have found to packing is packing neutral colors and basics that I can layer.

10. Laptop and phone

These seem like no brainers, but as a college student, my entire life is on my laptop and phone, so these are items I cannot forget.

11. Credit/debit card

To fund all of your abroad adventures you need money, especially a card with a 4 digit pin, as that is what most stores require for using a card abroad.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
