College is the place where sleep can sometimes feel like a rich man’s luxury. From spending time learning the things you truly love, to juggling other frivolous studies that go along with shaping you into a well-rounded adult, it can sometimes feel like you are being pulled in so many different directions. Even your weekends start to feel rather small as you spend your Friday evenings contemplating that test you have on Tuesday and the essay that’s due on Thursday. Here are four things to do once the going has gotten tough.
Impromptu Road Trip: There’s something about traveling and being on the road that clears one’s mind. The wide open fields, the speeding cars..etc. Talk to your friends, think about random cities or states that you all have always wanted to visit and try to hit each one once every two months. This would not only create never ending adventures, but it would also strengthen your bonds.
Concerts: Music is always the answer, and it will always be. Draw up a list of your favorite artists. What singers have you been grooving to lately? What lyrics make your heart warm? Think this over with a group of friends, decide on an artist and purchase concert tickets! Being part of something celebratory like music can liven your mood and settle you into good spirits for weeks.
Athletic Challenge: You aren’t athletic, you are afraid of heights, yet you love adventure! Pushing yourself to get out of your physical comfort zone is also something that can greatly benefit your emotional and educational cause. Allowing yourself to give into fear, and challenging yourself to overcome that fear, pumps you up and allows you a chance to celebrate small milestones.
Go home: You have came, you have conquered some, you have failed some, now take a break and go home! Eat your mother’s casserole, try laying on the couch and watching cartoons for a couple of hours, disconnect from the idea that you have to pretend to be an adult all the time. Go home, settle, recollect and return better.
