Things We All Wish To Forget From Our Middle School Years

Middle school wasn't anybody's prime years but at least we all got through it together

Things We All Wish To Forget From Our Middle School Years
Cheney Mason

Middle school was that awkward in-between stage when we were old enough to be out of elementary school, finally, but hadn't quite gotten to high school yet. Out of all of the years, I think it's safe to say that middle school was one of the worst, looking back on it now. There are so many things i'm sure we all want to forget and wish we hadn't done.

1. Our "relationships." Remember? The ones that started with a text from a fellow middle-schooler asking who you liked and if you said them, you dated for about a week or two before having one of your friends break up with them for you. Then on to the next.

2. Our style. We all thought we really had it going on back in the day when in reality, looking back at the pictures our parents took of us and our friends, it's horrifying. Why did we think it was acceptable to match two of the ugliest items in our closet together? And our hairdos...those were bad.

3. How cool we all thought we were. Making the transition from elementary school to middle school was a pretty big deal. We used to think we were some of the coolest kids around.

4. The drama. Let's face it, everyone thought the drama in middle school was so serious; when in reality, it was so comical. Some of the "problems" we faced back in the day were so irrelevant. Whether it was friend drama or boy drama, it didn't make a dent in our lives now.

5. The make-up we used to wear that we were confident looked great. Hate to break it to all of the ladies but, it didn't. None of us knew a thing bout how to properly apply any make-up let alone how to match it to our skin tone and make ourselves look presentable.

6. The embarrassing photos we took. We would all be much better off without the documentation of the vast amounts of photos we took at sleepovers. Many of those in our albums now should have absolutely been deleted. Not to mention what we edited the pictures with...like picnic.

7. The first crush that didn't like us back. Yes, we'd like to forget that person, especially because our feelings were very hurt. We probably got a bad grade on a spelling quiz because of you.

8. The cliques. Striving to be in that "popular" crowd was so extremely important to us that we would break our necks just to try to be part of it. So glad that isn't a thing anymore.

9. Slang terms we used on the daily. It made us seem cool and necessary at the time, but now, they were all just so weird.

10. That "big fight" we had with one of our best friends. Most likely it was about something worth fighting over or about but it was the end of the world at the time.

11. Our personal hygiene. Forget deodorant? oh well. Haven't showered in a couple days? who cares. Haven't washed your face in forever? Don't worry about the acne it's fine.

12. How immature we were. We thought the craziest things were cool or funny or fun and really they were all just immature things that we are so glad we aren't into anymore.

We can't dwell on those past middle school years but they were pretty bad. The good news in we were all in it together for the most part. Middle school isn't necessarily anybody's prime years and that's ok. We all got to go through it together and hopefully we have all learned from our middle school selves.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
