After almost five full months of being a tour guide, it has become so evident there are some people who need to think before they speak. Giving a tour, there are many things which seem obvious, as if everyone should have the same knowledge as us. Therefore, here's a list of some things tour guides get asked on tour, which should probably be kept inside the head of those who say them.
1." Do you sell chocolate milk in your dining halls?"
Yes, we do. In fact, we have strawberry milk as well.
2. "Are the beds waterproof?"
For what purpose would someone need a bed to be waterproof? Do you plan on wetting the bed?
3. "Which residence hall has the best parties?"
This first problem with this question was that it was a parent asking. The second problem is this question was followed by, "Is it really dry residence halls? It can't be that strict. You can trust me."
4. When someone says a major that's not too popular, or has a reputation to not make as much money, you may get asked, "You're in it for the experience? You must really not like making money."
What? What is that supposed to mean?
5. "Do I really need to study?"
You're paying to come to college... So yes, I would advise you to study.
6. "How many bathrooms are on campus?"
It is a college, with students and people here all day long. There are many, many bathrooms.
7. "What's the school's policy on pets? Can I bring my ferret?"
No. Just, no.
8. "How much do you get paid?"
Little pushy ma'am.
9. "What do you do for fun? You seem like you'd be bored here."
I'm not telling you, but I will continue telling you about school clubs.
10. "What other schools did you get into?"
How will that help you decide if you're going to come to this school?
11. "Are your dorm rooms Co-Ed?"
No, and I'm pretty sure no college is.
12. "Do you ever run out of food on campus?"
13. "Do you have friends?"
14. "What was your S.A.T. score?"
Why does that matter?
15. "What is the required G.P.A. to graduate?"
Moral of the story: being a tour guide can be hilarious and confusing. We get asked questions that no one would ever understand. Just remember if you ever go on a tour, be mindful of what you're saying.
