In a perfect world, people would not get behind the wheel after having a few too many drinks. People wouldn't insist to all of their friends that they were "fine," and drunkenly offer rides to anyone who needed it. In a perfect world, people would not make the conscious decisions to put their life, and everyone else's lives in danger. But, unfortunately, we live in an imperfect world where people constantly make mistakes, some forgivable and some not.

Drinking and driving not only puts you and the car passengers at risk, but also the innocent people driving on the road, and possibly people just simply walking or riding their bikes on the street while you are driving.

So next time you or a friend consider getting behind the wheel intoxicated, here are a few things to think about:

Think about your friends in the back seat.

Think about how their parents would react if the cops came knocking at their door in the middle of the night.

Think about the look on their parent's faces when the cops have to deliver the news that they have been badly injured, or possibly even killed in a drinking and driving accident caused by you.

Think about the amount of people that would be hurting, and suffering through that time.

Think about your friends in the hospital. Barely holding onto life because you thought you could get behind the wheel after five drinks. Imagine the disappointment and sadness they would feel.

Think about your family. Your mom and dad, sister or brother. Think about your little sibling growing up without a big brother or sister to look up to.

Think about the victims. Imagine the family in the car, coming home from dinner, innocently going back home when you swerve into oncoming traffic and smash into the front of their car. Think about children growing up without parents because you thought it was cool to drink and drive.

The point of this is to show that drinking and driving does not only affect the person who is doing it. It affects people in their car, the innocent victims, and everyone's family and friends. The terrifying thing is that no one thinks about that. It's scary to think about losing your own life, but it's equally as horrifying thinking about possibly being the person who causes such a tragic thing.

Drinking and driving isn't funny. It does not make you cool. You are not invincible. You can ruin so many people's lives by making that decision to drive drunk.

So next time you are with your friends drinking, think of this article. Don't let a fun night with your friends turn into a nightmare.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
