College life is crazy. You move away from the place you call home and you get so caught up in everyday life that you forget to thank some of the people who keep you going … for instance, the people you live with.
My roommate has had a lot to deal with the past few years … aka living with me. I have truly lucked out and had the same roommate for the past three years. She's one of my very best friends from high school, and I have come to know that there are just certain things that only roommates understand. Here’s a list of the things I forget to thank my roommate for:
1. For telling me when I am thinking irrationally.
2. And for not judging me later about the stupid choices I make when I was thinking irrationally.
3. For dealing with my nagging.
4. For coming with me on the midnight food runs even if you don’t want anything.
5. For taking out the trash and doing the dishes, even though I’m extra OCD about everything.
6. For complaining with me about schoolwork.
7. For talking me through it when I get too stressed out.
8. Or for freaking out about being too stressed out too …
9. For helping me procrastinate when I need a break … or a few.
10. For never watching TV with me (who has time for that?).
11. For knowing how to deal with my best and worst moods …
12. For not judging me when I am too broke to go eat or do anything.
13. For being perfectly happy about lounging around and eating pizza and watching movies with me.
14. For always being there to give advice on the real world … because we don’t understand it yet.
15. For hanging out with me almost all the time and going to every event with me.
16. For having that understanding bond with me that sometimes we have to hang out with other friends too.
17. For supporting my dreams … even if you don’t care anything about reading my writing.
18. For listening to me babble about everything ... even when you don’t want to hear it
19. For telling me to shut up when I talk too much.
20. For reminding me when the cable bill is due.
21. For letting me lie in your bed and have serious life talks with you when I am feeling down.
23. For going grocery shopping with me (on the rare occasions when we actually do that).
24. For randomly cooking dinner with me.
25. For keeping up with the latest gossip with me.
26. For keeping me on my toes and telling me to calm down when I am being dramatic.
27. For living with me since freshmen year dorm days, to house days, to now apartment days.
28. For making our small little apartment feel like home.
29. For proving all the statistics wrong about living with your high school best friend.
30. For doubling up my wardrobe and always fixing my hair.
31. For understanding I have never had to share clothes with anyone else and respecting to ask me before you wear anything.
32. For answering my worrying questions likes “Do you think I’ll have enough time for ... ?” or “What do I reply back to this?”
33. For being so considerate and texting me, “I’m sorry I didn’t know you were upset or I wouldn’t have had people over” when I am literally having a break down in my room upstairs but all our friends our downstairs.
34. For understanding sometimes I need my own space
35. For being the closest thing I have to family when I am away from my own.
36. For sharing your food when I run out of mine.
37. And for switching up buying the TP and Paper towels, because we both know how much we hate buying those.
38. For not waking me up in the morning when you’re getting ready for your early class and I want to sleep in.
39. Thanks for pushing me to have fun, even when I want to be lame.
40. And for being my own personal therapist.
Even though it definitely hasn’t been easy at times, I appreciate it all. So thank you for not killing me …. yet ... and for not being able to live with me or live without me. I couldn’t have done college life without you this far.
