6 Budget-Friendly Things To Do Over Spring Break
John Bhatti

Spring break is finally upon us! Many people are not going to away to some amazing and exotic location, though, Instead, we are going home. But that's okay and it's nothing to fret about. There are many nice things to do in your own area. Being someone who is from Rockland County and I also happen to live right on the border of New Jersey. And there are a lot of fun things to do locally! I recently had an epiphany: instead of feeling bad about not being able to afford an expensive vacation for spring break, I am going to enjoy life. I have learned to be happy in my limited resources and loving life, being happy in what I have and who I am. I want to make the most of break and live life and be happy!

1. Go to a Cafe!

I love going to cafes! They are not too expensive and you can have fun just getting a tea or coffee. You can enjoy a pastry and just feel happy in the moment. It's not always about spending a lot of money, it's more about being happy. One great cafe to check out is Art Cafe in Nyack, New York. Another great option is Cafe Anello in Westwood, NJ. Cafe Trois in Northvale, NJ is amazing as well. Honestly, just enjoying an amazing coffee or tea at one of these wonderful cafes is enough for a good time. So enjoy the atmosphere and be happy!

2. Go on walks!

It's healthy fun and costs little to no money! Try walking on the Pier in Piermont, NY or Congers Lake Park in Congers, NY. Go to one of these beautiful places and just walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You'll have a good time if you go with your family or good friends. It's healthy and fun! Go hiking as well! For this, you can try Tallman State Park in Rockland County, NY.

3. Visit New York City!

If you live in either Rockland or Bergen county, you have easy access to the city! You can drive or take the train or a bus. The city has limitless options. There are so many amazing things to do! There are vintage fashion stores to visit, and museums and parks and great food choices.

4. Arts and Crafts!

Arts and crafts are fun and inexpensive. You can create so much and have a lot of fun, too! It's a great way to spend your break and you can make something beautiful out of it. For example, you can tie-dye clothing, paint, create a photo project or do a photo shoot with your friends or of nature

5. Go Bowling!

Go to one of your local bowling alleys and have a good time! It's fun and inexpensive. There are some great bowling alleys in Bergen and Rockland county.

6. Make gourmet homemade Pizza!

It's fun and you can get dough from your local pizzeria! New York and New Jersey people really know their pizza! We have a great pizza-palate and we can use our pizza knowledge to make great pizza at home!

Have a fun and safe break, everyone!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
