With everything happening in the news and bad things going around, there is so much I could tell you about this week. However, when I chose to write for Odyssey my focus was to brighten up the world a little bit, so here are some fun things you can do this summer in the Walla Walla Valley.

Living in the Walla Walla Valley I hear a lot of people saying go to the coast to have fun, well, let me tell you, here are five of the must do things here in the Walla Walla Valley.

1. Fishing

Everyone from the PNW should know how to fish, but I just have to tell you, here in the Walla Walla area we have some of the best places to go. Jubilee is a little far, but let me tell you, it is well worth it. Obviously the Colombia is a great place to fish, from sturgeon to trout, that river has quite the show. However, the fun does not come from just catching fish on your line (that's just an added bonus, an awesome one at that) the real joy of fishing comes from the people you go with, so grab a few good friends, and drop a line in!

2. Hiking

Yes, I realize this is an obvious one, but how could I not list it? What good would summer be if you didn't spend time outside? With the warm sunshine and the beautiful views this valley has to offer? The real question is, how can you stay inside? So grab a bottle of your favorite beverage and hit the trail with some of your good friends, step off the beaten path for an adventure in the blues you'll not soon forget.

3. Go mushrooming

Weird word right? Mushrooming is actually a ton of fun and you get to eat what you find (if it's edible that is)! Go pick meurels to your hearts content. Just grab a basket and a walking stick and strike up the unknown. Passing through the timbers you're sure to find adventure and memories around every turn!

4. Go for a drive

I know this is a no-brainer for a lot of people, but for those of you who don't know, this valley is gorgeous! Get out and see it! That's what the summer is all about right? Get out of your comfort zone and go see what you can find. Ride the old dirt roads just like all the country songs say! This world is so beautiful, but if you don't go find those places for yourself, you'll never know!

5. Finally, go for a spin on the Colombia

You have to know at least someone who has a boat around here. Find them and ask them if you can get a view of the river, from the water. The river is the second most freeing place (the Blue Mountains are the first). Get out and get your hair a little wet! Try your hand on the rope and do some wake boarding or water-skiing, just a disclaimer, don't expect to get up on the first try.... You will eat a TON of water before you do. When you finally get up though, the memories will be worth more than gold.

The Walla Walla Valley is such a beautiful place to be, get out and enjoy it! The summer is meant for fun in sun, so don't stay trapped indoors! Get out whenever you can, nature has a lot if wants to teach and even more memories it wants to give you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
