If you're someone who enjoys simple times in a beautiful city, this list is for you! Here are a few of my favorite ways to spend time in Charleston.

1. Going to the beach to watch the sunrise

This is my top favorite thing to do in Charleston. Folly beach has some of the best sunrises on the east coast! They’re always so beautiful and it’s such a peaceful time. There are only a few other people out on the beach also enjoying the sunrise and a few surfers out. This is such a nice time to clear your head and enjoy the beauty.

2. Spending the day at the beach

Charleston is surrounded by amazing beaches! Sullivan’s Island and Folly are the closest but Kiawah and Hilton Head aren’t too far. I always end up at Folly because I love the laid-back, funky vibe. Swimming in the ocean, tanning, walking along the shore, hanging out with friends, and grabbing lunch at cute cafes is the best way to spend a day!

3. Going to health food cafes

Health food cafes are always popping up in Charleston and that makes me so happy! They’re all so cute and have such great food! I love indulging in healthy foods in a cute café while catching up with friends.

4. Going to brunch

To start, brunch is a big deal in Charleston! Charlestonians definitely know how to brunch. Getting together with friends for brunch is so much fun! You get to enjoy delicious food and coffee or mimosas (or both); what’s not to love?

5. Spending time at local coffee shops

There are so many coffee shops all over Charleston. They all have great coffee but each has a different vibe. There is pretty much a coffee shop to go to for any mood you may be in. I love hanging out at coffee shops while catching up with friends! Coffee and friends are some of my favorite things.

6. Going to breweries

More and more breweries are popping up around Charleston. They have great beer and like coffee shops in Charleston, each has a different vibe. You can go to breweries with cool rooftops, nice outdoor patios, and most are pet-friendly. Who doesn’t love seeing dogs when out for a drink?

7. Walking around the battery

Walking around the battery has to be one of the best ways to clear your head. It’s so peaceful walking along the water. It’s also fun to walk around with friends talking about everything going on in life. The sunsets are also pretty spectacular by the battery. One of my friends and I used to ride our bikes around the battery at sunset in the summer and it was one of our favorite things to do together.

8. Walking around the beautiful city

Something as simple as walking around the city is such a fun thing to do when you live in a city as beautiful as Charleston. I am pretty much able to walk everywhere I go in Charleston, and that makes me so happy! There is so much beauty everywhere you look and I always notice new things while walking around.

Charleston is an amazing place with so much to offer and I hope this makes you want to get out and enjoy the city!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
