Sorry mom and dad...

5 Things That Are Normal At College But Not At Home
College Humor

Sorry, mom and dad but I cannot change my college ways for the Summer. College has presented me with new ways to go about my day. Some are more useful than others, but most of them are beneficial only to me. What can you do? I love the new habits that I have developed while at college.

1. Sleeping all day

One of the best parts about being away at school is the free time you have to yourself. If you want to take a nap or sleep until 2:00 P.M. on a Tuesday, no one is there to stop you. So sorry mom and dad, but there is no stopping my nap game.

2. Drinking on a Thursday

Thursday night out while at school is totally normal. Reaching for a drink on a weekday might have your parents concerned with your drinking habits. The best way to get around this is meeting your friends for dinner and drinks, try going at happy hour for the best deals. (Since we are poor college kids after all)

3. Late night food runs

12:45 A.M. Sheetz runs are prime with friends, especially during late night study sessions or after a night out. Again, your parents will not approve. Sorry mom, I did it for the mac and cheese bites. (Totally worth it if you ask me)

4. Staying out late

While staying out until 3:00 A.M. is totally normal at school, once you move back home for the Summer, it is, "my house, my rules." Sorry mom and dad, I cannot be tamed. While you may think nothing good happens after midnight, you are probably right but I will live and learn that for myself.

5. Expecting dinner to be ready at 5:30

The dining hall may serve dinner at 5 o'clock, but if your mom is anything like mine she will think you are crazy for wanting to eat that early. So, stock up on snacks and wait for the best two words a mom can say: "dinner's ready".

Do not worry friends, two months until we are free again! Until then, I will pray for your sanity, as well as mine.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
