Another year is coming to a close. The holidays are a great time to reflect on the things that you are most thankful the year gave you. Though 2016 had it's up and downs, it was still a great year to grow in.
First of all, I'm thankful 2016 brought is new people in my life. You know you've found great people when you can't remember life before them, and those are just the people 2016 gave me. Friends who become family are easily the best, because these are the people that help you grow as a person while never leaving your side.
Next, I'm thankful for my school. Without the University of Florida, I would not be who I am today. The opportunities I received from attending UF better prepared me for my future career and made me realize that I am on the right path. Though many nights were spent rotting away in the library, I am always thankful for how my school challenges. In the end, I am only given obstacles that will better me in the end.
Continuing, I am thankful that 2016 gave me a new, beautiful place to live with amazing roommates. Dorm life was the absolute worst experience for me, and it made me upset when I had to go back to school. Living with respectful, motivating roommates really changed my outlook on school. I love being in Gainesville, and I love going home after a long day of studying. Before, I would absolutely dread this. Living in a positive atmosphere really helps when schoolwork can already provide enough stress on its own.
2016 taught me to feel the fear, but do it anyway. I learned that things that scare you can only make you grow as a person, and that eventually new things don't become scary anymore. I learned to believe in myself and my skills, and with that I could do anything. I don't shy away from a challenge anymore, and that is one of the things I only hoped I could learn.
Finally, 2016 took me to new places and heights. I love to travel, and this year I got to experience what is now some of my favorite places. Whether is was a long, explorative vacation or a weekend getaway, I learned that any change of scenery, no matter how long, was a great experience to hold with me throughout the year.
2016 was a crazy year, but it made me realize how much can happen and change in 12 months. Whether you too grew this year or not, a fresh start is right around the corner. Embrace it.
