To quote the ever so brilliant Brittney Spears, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman." Recently I have been having this nagging feeling that 'adulthood' is right around the corner and honestly I am so unprepared. I'm at this point in life where I wake up, go to work, make myself food, go to class, get to the gym but yet when I start to feel sick, I shrivel up into the 5 year old version of myself and cry for my mommy. Half of my friends are still partying up the good years while the other half is getting engaged to great guys and starting a life. And then there's me. Not sure where I fall on that spectrum but here are a few things that I found out and definitely provided a wake-up call.
1. So you're telling me there's a finite amount of dishes in this house and I actually have to WASH them by hand? Dishes with leftover food (that are definitely mine) sitting in water for days? That's gross.
2. Pajamas and sweats are no longer appropriate to wear out in public. I now have to represent myself as an adult and future clinician so I'm assuming my penguin footsie pajamas are a no-go to the grocery store..
3. Eating cereal for every meal.. every day.. can get really old really fast. Even you try to be a chef and mix different kinds of cereal together.
4. I have to be nice to EVERYONE? You mean I can't just stick my tongue out and call someone a buttface if I don't like them? Note to self: start working on that poker face.
5. My mom was actually right about a lot of things... crap. Don't tell her I said that please.
6. Spending money on co-pays, gas and groceries and opting for the cheap beer at the bar because honestly that's the only thing I can afford right now.
7. Free food is the #1 way to bribe me to go anywhere. Or a free tee shirt.
8. If you spend all day in bed, people will ask you what's wrong when in reality you just started a new Netflix series and you're hooked because you need to know if Dean Winchester makes it back to his brother Sam in time to save the world from the angels and demons who are having an apocalyptic war...
9. Giving your mom a hug is the best way to recharge your battery at the end of a long week. She's the only one that makes you feel like the world actually isn't crumbling underneath your feet.
10. Actually being a (semi) functioning member of society who is ready to make a life of their own that will mean something. The future will be exciting, but for now, I will never get too old to curl up with my dad and make fun of my mom.
