As human beings, it's no secret that we often do things that are hard to understand. I feel as if most people do things simply without thinking first. Some things people do are not that terrible, but with other things, I'm left to wonder what they could have been thinking in the first place. These are just some of the things that I personally don't understand why people do or sometimes don't do.
1. Failure to discipline a child
I understand having children isn't easy and yes all children have tantrums. However, if you choose to ignore these tantrums or talk to them like they can do no wrong, you won't get anywhere. You chose to have a kid, it's your responsibility to teach them right from wrong. Other people are going to have to deal with your child once they get older. No one wants to deal with a person who thinks they have to have their way all the time. There are some that will say because I'm not a mom I don't understand. In a way, they're right. I don't understand how hard it is to have a child, and I admire all mothers who do a good job. Like my own mother, who has two kids of her own and gets just as angry as I do when she sees a brat that someone fails to discipline.
2. Unnecessary anger towards retail/fast food/server workers
I've been a cashier since I was 17. Until then, I never knew it was possible for adults to act so childish and stupid. It actually scares me to think that some of these people are able to do things like vote. People will get angry about prices, if we don't have something they want, how a line is too long. Most things people seem to get angry about are things the cashier can't control. You're wasting your time and energy complaining to me about how something is too expensive. I only make eight dollars an hour. Do you honestly think I have any say in how much something costs?
3. Sharing personal information with a stranger
Again this happened a lot while being a cashier. People that I'm not even on a first name basis with, would come up to me and tell me about what's going on with their families. Who they visited in the hospital, who just recently died and who they were waiting on to die. I once had a woman tell me she was having an allergic reaction to tampons. What am I supposed to say to that? I understand we all have things we need to get off our chest but please talk to someone else. I'm not a therapist, I can't help you and I have my own personal problems to deal with.
4. Looking down on others
I'm not sure how many people are aware of this but when we're born we're all pretty much the same. We're helpless babies that can't do anything for ourselves. We all live as long as God intends. We all have blood running through our veins. We all die when the time comes. With everything else in existence, we're pretty much nothing. How a person can think that they're better than someone else is beyond me. We're all human, we're all flawed. If you choose to look down on others and think you're better than them, you're only fooling yourself.
All of us do things that others don't understand, including myself. I'm not saying being a flawed person makes you bad. It's natural, however, I just wish more people would be more attentive to the things they do. Life is short and I for one would like to try to make myself a better person, rather than just ignoring my flaws and continue to let others suffer because of them.
