Sometimes you can't understand it unless you are a part of it. Sports teams, families, clubs- this can apply to them all. One commonly misunderstood community is that of Greek life in college. Not that I am going to get into the larger serious issues that are misunderstood about us, but instead I'd like to teach you a little about our every day thoughts and quirks. Here are a few of the things you only understand once you become a part of Greek Life.
Checking for letters on the back of each car you pass. This becomes a habit, especially when we are cut-off or let over in traffic, or maybe notice an attractive driver too.
The instant increase in Instagram Likes after Bid Day. Because finally everyone can follow each other without worrying about breaking any recruitment rules.
Having more Greek buttons on your backpack than you have pencils in your backpack. It's just the truth.
Dressing up like it's Halloween on a weekly basis. For Greeks, it's just another social.
Throwing together a themed outfit an hour before an event. Because sometimes nothing in our closet will work or we decide to go last minute, so Goodwill is the go-to!
The excitement of getting a Little. This may be said more for girls than the guys but all in all, you can't deny the special relationship that comes along with it!
Having Greek letters by your contact names. Because if you know five Justins, it's the easiest way to keep your ducks in a row.
The anxiousness that occurs when a bus list sign-up for an event is posted. This can usually be compared to The Hunger Games, but Greek style.
Having the most overlapping GroupMe's possible. Because one is with all your brothers/sisters, and another is with eight of them and another is with the brothers/sisters you have class with and the list goes on and on.
Knowing all of the Greek alphabet. If you don't know all of it, you at least know all the letters on your campus so that basically means we're bilingual, right?
Having to clarify which family you're referring to. Biological or Greek? Both are close to the heart.
The reassurance you get when your Standards Chair Likes your pictures. Because you know they wouldn't like it if you weren't making them proud, and let's be real, it's always a good thing.
These are just a few of the experiences and quirks that Greek life brings us. If you are in a Greek community then I hope you got a kick out of these common truths and if you are not, I hope you enjoyed a little insight into the daily life we live!
