12 Things You Need To Know About Owning A Cat

When you're ready to get your first pet, it usually tends to be a cat. Why? Because they are said to be easier to care for than dogs. However, there are some things cat owners or shelters don't tell you before you adopt. As a cat owner, I will be nice and share some things that might help you.

1. Your sleep will be disrupted...constantly.

Cats are naturally nocturnal, you probably aren't. Your cat will be up all night, and she will want to play with you, or walk all over your face. She will also try to wake you up bright and early in the mornings.

2. Kitty litter gets everywhere.

I mean everywhere. You will find litter in places you never would have guessed.

3. Cats will entertain themselves.

Seriously, all you need is a box or just one toy. That's it. They will take care of the rest.

4. Nothing is safe.

Your feline friend is curious. This means she will probably get into everything she can, like all of your perfume bottles or anything on shelves.

5. They sleep a lot, too.

Seriously, almost all of the pictures of my cat are of her sleeping. Well, you know, they sleep until you fall asleep. Then they can't seem to fall asleep.

6. Cats love to eat.

Even though it's not recommended to have your cat on full-feed, she will be begging you for food every time her bowl is empty. Just try not to give in too often.

7. Cats don't really like to cuddle...

...unless they want to. But as soon as you start enjoying the cuddle time, they leave.

8. They thrive on your pain.

(Nothing more to be said here.)

9. Your feet are one of your cat's favorite toys.

Sometimes your cat will go out of her way just to attack your feet as you walk by a doorway, too. I'm not sure how many times I have almost tripped because of my cat attacking my feet as I walk out of the bathroom.

10. They expect you to worship them.

No, really. They don't like being touchy-feely like dogs, but they still expect you to dote on them and spoil them more than you would a human child. You are their servants, nothing more.

11. They will attempt to escape at least once...per day.

It seems like my cat tries to run out the door every time I try to go to work. Be sure to keep a sharp eye on them. Wouldn't want them to find a better servant than you, would you?

12. Cats use the bathroom a lot.

Really, how many times does a cat need to poop? To let you know, it is normal to feel like you need to constantly clean her litter box. And don't expect it not to stink. Cats can be smellier than dogs.

Cats can be fun, I admit, but they are more work than people claim them to be. Hopefully, this gives you some insight on your future cat-child before you fully commit to bringing him/her home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
