Yesterday was my mom's birthday, and it got me thinking a lot about how much I love and appreciate her. College is a weird time -- you start to realize that everything your mom had tried to tell you in high school was way too true, and you start to miss her more than ever. My mom is one of the most important, influential people in my life. She's incredibly servant-hearted, and always tries her hardest to make sure everyone is having a great time. As a middle school teacher, she is incredibly patient and optimistic. Any time an essay prompt asks me to write about someone who inspires me, I immediately turn to her. That's why it's so important to me that she knows just how much she is loved.
Mom, You're Always Right
OK, I'll admit it: I was too headstrong in high school. You did nothing but try to push me in the right direction, and I did nothing but resist. From cute clothes to applying for colleges, you always had the best intentions at heart. Now that I'm older, I realize how naive and close-minded I could be. Your advice is always the best, and I'm so glad I finally realized that it's probably in my best interest to listen.
Nothing Tastes Better Than Your Food
Honestly, I'm so lucky to be in the same city as my parents. I have a free place to do laundry, I can complain when everyone around me is irritating me, and, most importantly, I still have your home-cooked meals. There's nothing in the world that I love quite as much as having Sunday lunch with my family, and definitely not Ramen.
You Are Part of Who I Am Today
I may look exactly like my dad, but both of you have shaped the person I have become. Your wit, your grace, your strength, and your attitude towards life have bled over into my own personality. Without you around, I would never have had such a strong female role model to aspire to.
You're My Best Friend
There's no one else in the world who has been with me through the ups and downs of everyday life except for you. You're my rock, and I depend on you for so many different things. I couldn't do half of the things I am able to without your support. I dread the day that we aren't in the same city, because then my phone bill is going to be sky-high.
Appreciate your mothers. They care for you for your entire life and make sure that you are provided for. Don't let her think that you take her for granted. Mothers make the world go round, but they won't be around forever. Always make sure your mother knows how you feel.
Thank you, Mom. For everything you do.
