Things I've Learned This Year

God paved my way this way once I surrendered it all to Him

Things I've Learned This Year
John Olar

I have learnt such an incredible amount this year. I’ve learnt that I should never rely on someone for happiness as there is always a chance that they will leave. Many people devote their entire existence to one person and I’ve personally experienced this year how that existence can come crashing down and you can be left feeling like you have nothing left to live for. Never let someone have so much control over you that you’re scared to spend your own money.

I’ve learnt that you need to keep your family and friends as close as you can as they are the people who will be there for you when times get hard. Also, listen to those people.Don’t resent the people who are trying to help because 9 times out of 10 they are speaking the truth. I have learnt to never let someone control you or let them control your emotions.

I learnt that walking away from something isn’t admitting defeat. It’s healthy to walk away from something that is making you question your self-worth.

Parts of your life will fall apart, but the reason this happens is for other parts of your life to be created. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Joy is a choice to live in a heavenly mindset no matter your worldly circumstances.
  • God has already overcome the world for us, so why do we keep trying to overcome the world ourselves?
  • The only opinion that matters is God’s.
  • Be more considerate and understanding of people.
  • It’s easiest to walk with God in the hard times. It’s the easy times that make us feel we can do life on our own.
  • Be more patient on people having a hard time
  • Dont forget to tell someone you love that you love them
  • God’s light travels fastest through our smiles and our kindness.
  • Be kinder, always.
  • Thank people who deserve to be thanked
  • Whatever you want in life, make sure that you always want God more.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
