1) You don't go to the dining hall at peak time.

I promise you, you won't find a seat ever. It will be the most awkward time of your life standing there with a plate full of food. The chance that someone knocks it over is so so high. The chance that you embarrass yourself in the process is so high, basically freshman social suicide. Or you may meet a great new friend cleaning up your meal.

2) Don’t wear your lanyard around your neck

It screams freshman. No one wants to stick out like a sore thumb. There are some things you just don’t want to do, and one of them is be a freshman. Lay low and don’t stick out.

3) Don’t be the one transported the first night

Everyone is going to find out. Everyone will be talking about it. Don’t let it be you. Control yourself, it’s just the first night.

4) Find your classes before they start

Walk around to the buildings, plan your fastest route if you know you are running from one class to another. You do not want to be the freshman running in 5 minutes late looking like you just ran a marathon into a class with a bunch of upperclassmen. You never know who is going to be in there.

5) Homework is real

Now I have never been the hardest worker but once you get to school, the workload is real. When you have free time and you are caught up on sleep, DO YOUR WORK. Don’t wait, you won’t have time. Even if you think you will have time you won’t.

6) Add/drop

If you are behind in the first two days, ABANDON SHIP. It won’t get better in the rest of the semester. You only have one week take charge ASAP.

7) Some people are insane

Now I have been blessed with one of my good friends as a roommate. What I have learned since being introduced from people all over the United States and parts of the world. Some people are just plain crazy. There are some people you just wouldn’t want to sleep in the same room with them. At all. Sleep with one eye open.

8) Look out for yourself

Although you may think some people have your back. They might not when it comes to when you need it. Make sure you can stand up for yourself when you need it

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
