I cannot be more thankful I had the opportunity to grow up with a stay at home mom. I’m also so grateful that my family had the privilege of having one parent not work full-time. I realize that not every family has the financial stability to have one partner stay at home to raise their children, but I’m so very thankful mine did. If you had a stay at home mom, you know the following things to be true:
Your mom is your best friend.
You spend so much time with your mom, so naturally, she becomes your best friend. You tell her everything and anything because she'll always be there for you.
Your mom was always there for sporting events, musicals, PTA things, and every event at school.
You were never the kid whose parents never showed up. It was awesome to look in the crowd at every important event and see your mom cheering you on.
You never dealt with babysitters or daycare.
I never had to worry about what I was doing after school. I always knew was going to be waiting for me when I got off of the bus and we would hang out the rest of the night.
Summer break was always the best.
I was never bored because my mom always found things for us to do. We spent our days at the movies, the pool, exploring museums, or just playing outside.
You always had a ride.
Since your mom wasn’t working, you had a ride everywhere.
Your house was always clean.
When we were at school, my mom made it a priority to get housework and errands done so she could spend time with us when we got home. Over the summer, we would sometimes help her clean. It was nice coming home to a clean house, and although we weren’t always vocal about our appreciation, we were definitely grateful.
You always had a home-cooked meal.
Same with having a clean house, your mom always made sure to make an amazing meal for everyone to come home to.
You always had someone to do something with.
My mom was always around to go shopping, get food, or just hangout and watch TV. I was never bored when I was home, because I was always spending time with my mom.
You learn so much more.
Because you spent so much time with your mom, she was able to teach you more than the things you learned at school. I learned so many valuable life experiences because I was able to spend so much time having real world experiences with my mom.
Stay at home moms: thank you for everything you do. You don’t have to do half of the things you do, but you continue to do them out of love. Being a mom is hard work, and being a stay at home mom is a job that is often overlooked. You guys rock.
