Picture this: you are fresh out of high school and you are ready to start your new journey at college. Summer goes by faster than normal and heading off to college is getting closer. First thing you think of is decorating your room and what you are going to buy for it. Then you think of your classes and what you're going to need for them.
College time is finally here and when you first arrive you are excited and nervous at the same time. But that's okay: it's normal. You meet your CA and then figure out what dorm you're in and then you set it up and say your good byes to mom and dad. Then you realize, you finally made it and classes start the next day. You think, Wow, I'm here. That's exactly how it went for me and I honestly had no clue of what to do next. These are the top 3 things that I learned my freshman year of college.
1. Time Management
Unless you already knew how to manage your time beforehand, you don't really know the first thing about time management, which is okay. Some people may figure it out after the first couple weeks of classes, some may figure it out a month into classes, and some may never figure it out. For those who never figured it out but still managed to graduate, kudos to you! Time management is all about putting your priorities first before everything else, (even if you don't want to!) for me my priorities were school, sports, friends, and then personal time. (It wasn't like this in the beginning though!) Time management though would have to be the biggest thing I learned, but I learned it in my second semester and slowly got better at it. Time management is KEY.
2. Make Friends Immediately
This one shouldn't be too too hard but it is still important! One of the very first friends you make is your roommate, and most likely will be your friend throughout the year if not throughout your whole college experience. Most friendships you make in college may last a lifetime so get yourself out there and be social!
3. Don't Be Afraid to Try Different Things
Trying new things is all part of life and in most cases it may be a great experience! (Not all of them will be, though.) When you try something new, you open yourself up to different things that you've never done before and you may or may not like it! If you don't like it, then you won't have to do it again. Also by trying new things you can learn a lot from them and you can tell people about the experience you had!
People may tell you college will be tough and it will take a lot of work. Well, they are half right, it does take some work but it really isn't hard at all. It's only hard if you make it hard and there are so many ways to make your college experience much more great and fun. So don't be afraid of college, enjoy it while you can because just like high school, it goes by fast!
