School's out and so am I. Now that this godforsaken spring semester is over, I hope to reach my summer goal of reverting back to a normal functioning human being. Here are the 15 normal human things that I finally have the time to do now that the semester is over.
1. Go home
AKA be set free from this wretched establishment of flawed education and broken dreams.
2. Get a decent amount of sleep
And if I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll even try to establish a regular sleep schedule.
3. Take care of my body and care about personal hygiene
Not gonna lie, I skipped showering a couple days too many during finals week to squeeze in that extra study time. My hair might've looked like a bird's nest for 2 weeks, but at least I pulled that B+.
4. Wear different clothes every day
I have time to change my clothes in the morning now? I don't have to wake up at 9:50am, roll out of bed, and run to my 10am in the same pajamas and college sweatshirt I've been wearing for the past 3 days? What???
5. Not cry as much
As much.
6. Regain sanity
Relatable.
7. Have a normal conversation with someone
...without having the ever-present anxiety of 3 papers, 7 online assignments, 4 midterms, 2 final projects, 5 internship applications, and 39 unread emails lurking over your shoulders.
8. Stop worrying so much
[nervous laughter] Will I ever really stop though?
9. Eat GOOD FOOD
My mama gon' make me some dang good chicken and rice for dinner and then we gon' go out for brunch the next day. See you in Hell, campus dining food.
10. Catch up with my family
And actually have genuine conversations with them instead of trying to talk to my parents while speed typing an assignment.
11. See all my friends from high school
I feel so terrible for not keeping in touch with a lot of people from high school. But I really haven't been able to keep in touch with anyone because of how busy school can be. Finally, I have all the time in the world to tell my friends about my wild Friday nights in college, finishing assignments and trying to find refuge in Facebook posts and YouTube videos.
12. Avoid all the people I didn't like in high school
Because I know I'm definitely going to see Becky from AP Calc in aisle 6 at the local Stop and Shop.
13. Fulfill my passions
I am dedicating the next 3 months to doing all the things that are important to me that I didn't have the time for. I'll play guitar, dance, plant a tree, direct a film; I can do EVERYTHING.
14. Try new things
Learn how to cook a new dish, travel to see a historical monument, jump out a window and have a mattress break my fall; I can do ANYTHING.
15. Be who I used to be
Being occupied with so much work and so many events and so many obligations in college has forced me to put aside a lot of things, including thinking about who I am and what I want in life. Even though being in college has been a time for me to grow as an individual, I really don't want to forget who I used to be.
