I have always been against having a puppy in college. I knew it was so much work and I didn't think that college students had the time to give the puppy as much attention as it needed. But, those thoughts instantly went away when I found the posting for these 2 adorable puppies.
Saving Hope is an organization in Fort Worth, Texas that saves the lives of dogs and helps them get adopted. These adorable puppies only needed to be fostered for about a week and I instinctively volunteered.
I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but a lot more comes with fostering puppies than I realized. They are truly more like babies than dogs. I had no idea that they would wake me up twice every night and then at 7:30 am to go to the bathroom. I had no idea that they would cry and bark every time I had to leave them to go to class. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to get homework, studying, and work done with them.
I also had no idea how many people would want to come meet them. I had no idea that so many people had questions and wanted to know more about fostering. I had no idea how attached I would become to them and how attached they would become to me.
So many people asked me how I was going to give them up and I honestly didn't think it was going to be that hard. I knew I was going to be excited to get a good night sleep and not have to clean up after them all over the house. I was wrong. I was supposed to have them for a week and after a couple days I knew I was going to keep them longer. They truly make my day so much brighter. If I was gone for more than 2 hours I just wanted to get home to see them. Now, they are getting adopted and it is extremely bittersweet. I know they are going to have so much love in their new home, but I am sad to see them go.
They were 100% worth all the work. Every sleepless night, freezing while letting them out at 4:30 am, and every ounce of poop and pee I cleaned up was worth it. They made my life so much happier and I know I helped make theirs better. I hope their new home loves them just as much as I do.
