It's the little things.

9 Things I Can't Wait To Do When I Get Back To The US

I've been abroad since January, as everyone probably knows, and I have roughly one month yet. It's bittersweet to be leaving so soon but there are definitely things that I am excited to do when I get back to the United States. Beside's the obvious things like seeing my family and friends, here are the 9 things I can't wait to do when I return home.

1. Sink my teeth into a Chick-fil-a sandwich.

I have been telling everyone and their mother about this since about the first two weeks. My first meal will be a #1 with a lemonade in the Atlanta airport the second I land. I never thought I could miss a food so much in my life.

2. Walk down the street and be able to understand those around me.

I mean it's my fault for choosing to study abroad in a country whose language I don't speak but you start to feel really isolated when you can't communicate or understand anyone you encounter.

3. Go out to dinner at 6:00 if I want to.

Here most restaurants don't open until 7/7:30 and I just want to be able to eat when I want to eat.

4. Pet a random person's dog.

Italian's are weird about people doing that and I will never understand it! I see so many cute little fur babies and it really is sad when you can't reach down and pat them!

5. Watch all nine seasons of One Tree Hill in one month.

This is just me being extra. Netflix took OTH off last year but then Hulu announced that they were going to start streaming everyone's favorite high school drama. However, it began streaming literally weeks after I left so it's been a long time coming and I can't wait to dive back in.

6. Bask in the 90 degrees Charleston summer.

After what feels like the longest winter of my life, I can't wait to be drenched in sweat five minutes after stepping out of my apartment.

7. Drink some coffee.

The coffee here is so incredibly strong that it literally pains me to drink it. All I want is an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts (which is pretty much just sugar and milk, to be honest).

8. DRIVE.

I'm the first to admit that I hate to drive, but for some reason, I am really missing it.

9. Take a nice long lap around Target.

I can't wait to be welcomed by the sweet smell of popcorn and the $1 section.

I realize that these are really little things in the grand scheme of things but they're the ones that I've been missing the most this past semester. I really have loved my time here in Florence but this girl is ready to be back home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
