When I was a kid, I remember staring in awe at my student teachers. They were in their early 20s, and to me, that was when your life magically came together.
Fast forward 15 years and I’m eating peanut butter out of a jar with three papers due the next day, an internship I haven’t applied for, and a love life that is dwindling in front of my very bloodshot eyes.
For those of you who think that 20-year-olds are mature adults, just wait. For my fellow 20-year olds, don’t feel bad if you find yourself identifying with everything on this list.
1. We still want dessert for dinner
Once you hit college, you have no one threatening to take away your video games if you don't eat your broccoli.
2. We still fight with our siblings
I would love to tell you that getting older means you and your siblings will start seeing eye to eye. That's not always the case. We're just hair pulling or pushing one another off the swings (praise be).
3. We still waste days playing video games
Don't think that just because we have an 8 a.m. the next day that we're not waiting in line for the midnight release of "Call of Duty."
4. We still cry to our parents
Remember when you fell off the swing when you were 7 and you ran to your mom or dad, bawling your eyes out? Being 20 is kind of like that, except with way more frequency.
5. We still go to bed early
Sometimes 5 p.m. feels like 8, and 8 feels like midnight. Don't let the Facebook photos fool you. We may stay out one night a week. Other than that, we're watching Netflix or sleeping.
6. We still obsess over toys that are for kids
Do you have Legos? Polly Pockets? Monopoly? I'll be right there. Let me finish this research paper.
7. We still throw fits
The older you get, the more that throwing fits is frowned upon. However, sometimes you just have to throw something or kick and scream. That paper will get done eventually.
8. We still get crushes
Believe it or not, not every 20-year-old is as smooth as we'd like to believe. Sometimes, it's better to admire your love from afar.
9. We still believe in cooties
Now they're just a little more serious and a little more permanent.
10. We still don't know what we're doing
It doesn't matter if it's your first day of college or if you just got your diploma handed to you: We have been the hot mess, we have all been anxious, we have all wanted to pull our hair out.
11. But we're getting the hang of it
You pulled an all-nighter? You skipped class to sleep? You got an A on a paper you did at the last minute? You're getting the hang of being a 20-year-old. Welcome to the club.
