It's hard to adjust after being home for almost a month.

After being in your hometown with your family for almost a month, adjusting to the Spring Semester can be rough. It is easy to feel just as homesick as you were when you first arrived in the Fall. Coming back to a tiny dorm room means leaving behind many luxuries that will be missed a lot in the first couple days, weeks maybe, including:

1. Home-cooked meals

After having hot home-cooked meals sat in front of you for over a month it is hard to work up an appetite when standing in line for the buffet. No food can beat a meal that your mom prepared from scratch, especially when you have the choice between the same dry chicken breast or bland white rice every single night. College food gets real old real quick, and if you choose to eat in your room for the night the choices are slim— Ramen Noodles or mac n' cheese?

2. Your own bed

There's nothing like waking up in your own room and in your own bed, which most likely isn't a twin size bed that is as hard as a rock. You're used to your own bed where you can roll around and be swaddled by fluffy blankets.

3. Your dogs/pets

It's hard to leave a house where your dogs are part of your family and have to be without them every day. It's sad to think that your mood can be changed immensely by seeing someone with a dog on the other side of the road while walking home from class. Dogs make you happy, it's the simple things in college.

4. Hot showers

Not only are the showers in the dorms not hot, but you also have to stand in a tiny stall and try not to touch any of the grimy walls. Also, have fun finding room to shave your legs. The entire showering process is just exhausting. Sometimes you just want to shower when you want to shower, but you have to wait till they're empty first... and oh, don't forget your shower shoes!

5. Sleeping in

On break, you have all the time in the world. If you want to sleep in till noon, do it. If you want to lay in bed all day, do it. Alarms and classes don't exist. Finals are exhausting, and you can finally catch up on all the sleep you have been missing. It is refreshing and much needed, but it only lasts so long. Soon enough you are setting alarms and waking up when it's still dark. It was nice while it lasted.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
