About a year and a half ago, I started my first real job at a teen clothing store. I have had the privilege to work with the most amazing co-workers who I can be serious and hard working with one minute, and then laughing with the next. I feel very lucky to be excited to go to work and genuinely love my job, even with the craziest retail time of the year coming up. Among these loving group of girls, I am lucky to have met one who has truly impacted my life. Her name is Shelby Scott.
I don’t think anyone really saw our friendship coming and honestly I don’t think we did either. Our interests and personalities are pretty opposite. I am much more reserved and shy when I first meet people, and Shelby’s personality is more prominent and strong. Despite that, we got along very well at work and started hanging out a lot more over this past summer. Over the past few months, we have grown so close and see each other a gross amount of times. Two weeks ago we seriously saw each other six out of seven days of the week. It’s so real.
Shelby, I am truly so thankful for our friendship. I have always been really blessed in the friendship department and didn’t think that the universe even had room to allow someone else who could be a real friend, but you completely proved that to be wrong. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life, and thank you for being a part of mine. Thank you for letting me listen to your stories even when tears accompany them. Thank you for somehow knowing when I’m not being honest with myself, and then helping me every step of the way to make it better.
Thank you for reminding me to not put myself down for having emotions. Thank you for knowing exactly what I’m thinking just from the expression on my face. Thank you for having the same weird sense of humor as me and laughing at internet memes with me until 3am. But most importantly of course, thank you for proving to me that I can actually be friends with someone who prefers country music over One Direction.
You’re truly a person of wisdom, creativity, patience, and joy, even if you won’t admit it sometimes. Thank you for always believing in me and my dreams, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and your dreams. I’m exceptionally thankful that you’ve been in my life for the past year, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the years have to offer for our friendship.
