The Year 3000

Have we already reached the point of no return?

The Year 3000

Take a step into the future with me. I'm not talking about shrink rays or time machines (which are extremely likely considering today's advances in technology); I'm talking about our generation's practical future:

It is the first day of your freshman year in college. You've spent 17 years of your life preparing for this moment. You have watched every documentary on Netflix so you'd be ready for History 101. You have scrolled through Tumblr for weeks so you'd pass Humanities. You've even been to every Bryson Tiller Jr. concert so that Psycology would be a breeze. And Politics? You knew that wouldn't be a problem after Kayne West abolished everything political when he was elected President 50 years ago. You are fully prepared and ready to conquer freshman year!

When you hear the term "College" what do you think? An education; an unforgettable experience; stress; tests; college athletics? The array of answers are almost infinite. Whatever your answer may be, one thing is certain: Colleges in America are failing to fulfill their expectations to ensure a more successful future for their students. Students are growing up with the idea that if they attend college, and complete their education with a degree, they are guaranteed a more successful life. This is not the case.

Our future is up to us. Students need to prepare for what is happening around the world. This generation is so caught up in the cameras, the media, and "making millions" that their educational foundation is crumbling to pieces. Ask yourself how you're going to swim in millions instead of watching the celebrities dive in. If we do not change how we view the importance of an education (and following up our degrees with a career) then this is exactly where we are headed: Twitter pole political elections and a mandatory OITNB arts and lecture (if you're a Criminal Justice Major).

Our lives revolve around celebrities, social media websites, and a loss of what is really important. Students care more about what the new filter on Snapchat is than the upcoming election. So gear up, grab your hover board, and don't be late to class; It's the year 3,000.

But it doesn't have to be...

Again I state, OUR FUTURE IS UP TO US. Take initiative to start learning about our history. REAL HISTORY... not all of Taylor Swift's past boyfriends. We can change our future's course. This generation sets the scene for all generations ahead of us. Be better than what they expect us to be. Be creative, be smart, be diligent, and don't elect Kanye West as President of the United States.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
