Everyone in their lifetime will eventually develop some form of interest or hobby. It is natural for people to indulge themselves in something they find enjoyable or just as a good way to pass the time. And, that isn’t to define an interest or something that gives you pleasure as one generic thing, it can be anything from listening to music or taking long hikes.
The important thing about these interests is that they are things that make us as people happy. The little things in our life which we can do to just enjoy ourselves and give us a break from the havoc and stress that is life. However, often enough in our lifetimes we get criticized for the things we like, or what we like to do.
This then turns the little things which make us happy into “guilty pleasures” or things which we enjoy which other people may not hold in the highest regard or in any regard at all. But, the point of the matter is there is no reason to really feel guilty.
I am someone who does tabletop RPGs like "Pathfinder" and "Dungeons and Dragons" because it's something fun that I can do with my friends. However, things such as that are often relegated to a niche and stigma for those who partake of it. There are always societal norms, and sometimes the little things just don’t fit inside of them.
The important thing is to not let it get the better of you, or feel bad for enjoying the things you do. Oddly enough the movie "High School Musical," which most of us grew up with, is about this exact premise; the importance of enjoying your life without the criticisms of other people, whether it be singing in musicals, playing video games, or reading comics by the boxful. The only thing that matters is that you don’t give up what you enjoy because someone tells you it’s not normal or interesting to them.
If anyone ever gives a criticism about the enjoyment you get from doing something you love, know that it doesn’t matter because it’s for your sake, not theirs. Just take whatever it is you enjoy, and own it; have fun with it, and live your life how you want to.
