The Weird One That Reads Books

A short explanation of how I got here.

The Weird One That Reads Books

When I found out I had been granted the wonderful opportunity to be a Creator for The Odyssey, my initial reaction was "Holy crap, this is amazing!" My second reaction, however, was "How the heck am I going to do this?" The Odyssey iquickly growing and becoming more popular each day, so to find out that I am now going to be contributing for them is a little intimidating. Nonetheless, I have hope that I can write some pretty great stuff for you guys. So, without further a do, this is my story (a little bit of it anyway.)

I was born and raised in Athens, Alabama, where everyone knows everyone, Friday night lights are the epitome of any social gathering, and you are IMMEDIATELY notified when the apple cider slushies are *finally* back in season at Isom's Orchard. Growing up here, there was never much to do. At six years old, I watched as my friends spent their Friday nights going to the skating rink or to the movie theater, while I stayed at home reading books and watching Disney Channel. At eighteen years old, I am watching my friends go off to college and go to parties, while I stay at home reading books and watching Disney Channel. It's an epidemic, really.

I've never seemed to mind being the "weird one that reads all those books." Reading is something that has always meant so much to me. I enjoy the idea of opening up a book and being taken into another world. In the eighth grade, I finally discovered that I could do something like that myself. i could write stories and entertain people and take them to a new and undiscovered world. This is when my passion for writing truly began.

My first stories I ever wrote were horrendous to say the least. They barely had dialogue, or a setting, or a plot...they were truly frightening. However, over time, with the help of some amazing English teachers, (Thanks Mrs. McCain and Ms. Matthews) I began to tap into my creative writing and really got my work out there. In the eleventh grade, I finally decided that I wanted to major in English. This leads me to now. A freshman at Calhoun, majoring in English with the hopes to one day write a story worth telling. Let's see how it goes.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
