1. Representing your school
If you love SHU as much as I do, you should be a student ambassador. Being a student ambassador you have to have a lot of school spirit so you can show families/prospective students how much you love your school.
2. Influencing perspective students to come to SHU
When students come on tours, we are the first people that have an influence on them. It is crazy to think I could be the reason they come here.
3. Meeting new people
Coming into my first year as an ambassador, I didn’t know a lot of people in the program, but by the end of the first week of training and now by the end of the first semester I feel like I am part of the ambassador family.
4. Having the best bosses in the world (Rob Gilmore and Marie)
These two run the show, and do a great job of it. You can always rely on Rob to make you laugh and he does an awesome job of running the program. Between the open houses and orientation events, these two are amazing people and put in 110% for us Ambassadors.
5. Getting 15% off at the bookstore
There’s always some perks of a job, but being an ambassador you probably get one of the better perks. 15% off of the SHU apparel is AMAZING. Everyone knows how expensive the clothes are but with the 15% off coupon it makes things a little more reasonable.
6. Getting awesome clothing
Ambassadors got two awesome shirts this semester AND we got to order a winter jacket for a really good price. It let’s everyone know who we are.
7. Learning about stuff 99% of things the rest school doesn’t know
I thought I knew everything about SHU, but after training I felt like I knew nothing. I cant spill our secrets but lets put it this way if you think you know everything about SHU you don’t.
8. Being a volunteer
Well this only applies for a couple of us but I am doing this job as a volunteer and honestly I’m so happy. I’m doing this for the love of my school. Every time I go out for a tour I feel like I can convince the prospective student to come here or at least make them come back for another visit.
9. Learning about different majors
I didn’t think I would know now about what classes nursing majors have to take and where the chemistry lab is on campus. But when different students come here for a tour I have been asked about a lot of different majors and answering questions and being knowledgeable about the different majors is something not just good for being a student ambassador but for the real life in general.
10. Having Dinner at Dr. Petillo’s house at the end of the year
Even though this is my first year as an ambassador I have heard there is a great dinner at Dr. Petillo’s house and he honors us for helping the school. I have been there for a couple of dinners for Student Government and I’m sure the one for us will be just as good.
