As fall is quickly approaching, I've come to realize something. As I scroll through Facebook, I see so much about how people can't wait for Pumpkin Spice everything and Halloween and sweaters and scarves. Now, I love fall just as much as the next person, but there's a simple trend in humanity of wishing away the present in exchange for counting down until the future. When it's summer, we can't wait to carve pumpkins and while we're at that costume party, we can't wait to trim the tree.
The moral of the story is this: don't waste your precious time with waiting for something in the future. Now this is something I know we've all been guilty of, and that's OK, but something so simple, yet so magnificent like the changing of seasons should be revered and not rushed. This concept applies to everything in life, which is why this is so important. It's easy for us to wish for the weekend all week long and before we know it, we've wasted a perfectly good week of our lives. Let's be present and live every day like it's our favorite.
Ecclesiastes chapter three, verse one states that "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." To everything there is a season. Each season in our lives brings something unique as does each changing season on earth. Let's neither rush the seasons in our lives nor the seasons of the natural world. While we're waiting for fall weather to hit, enjoy your shorts and enjoy a cold Popsicle. Then, when crisp autumn air brings pumpkins and scarves, don't wish for snow and Santa, enjoy the pumpkin patch. While celebrating Christmas with friends and family, don't wish for flowers and Easter egg hunts. And, while you're struggling through this week or this phase of your life, hope for a better tomorrow, but enjoy the struggles and victories of today.
Oh yeah, only four days until fall.
