The beginning of each school year means a few things, one main one being auditions and try outs. Whether you are trying out for a choir, a sports team, or auditioning for theater or dance, auditions are never easy and sometimes nerves get the best of us. One of the worst feelings is trying out for something you love and not getting it, fun fact, it's not the end of the world. One wonderful thing about auditions is they are a learning experience and most times they will happen the next year.
One main thing I recommend about auditions is to not give up, most likely you are doing something you love and just because you didn't get the spot doesn't mean that your not good. Not getting a spot could be for many reasons, but I like to think of it as there could be more opportunities coming your way. So please, do not give up and ask the coach or director what you need to work on for the following season's tryouts. That shows the director that you are still interested and willing to work for a spot on the team.
Auditions are scary. No matter how prepared you feel, the fear of the unknown can still hit and throw you off a bit. If you mess up, just keep going. Auditioning once gives you a chance to know what to expect next season and gives the coach a way to see your face. After an audition, it's OK to be upset but don't procrastinate working towards your goal. The more you procrastinate, the more you will have to work and be nervous for the next tryout. See if your school has classes or clubs in the area you are trying for so that you can stay active in that area.
And if you haven't heard it yet, I am so proud of you for putting yourself out there and trying out for the group, that's the scariest part and you did it. I wish you the best of luck as you keep working towards your goal and hopefully finding new opportunities.
