The Window

The window gives

An opening and

Protection from

The outside world.

It lets us peer

Through a barrier,

Of what could

Be easily broken.

It opens and closes

A sliver of

The present. All the while

Showing what was

There yesterday and

Will still be tomorrow.

This pane takes

In lightness and darkness

Without much of a crack.

It holds together until

It is ready to shatter.

A reminder that we too

Can hold on until the

Very last tap. Something

We can hold onto

For the future that

We know is clear,

With a slight opening

And enough protection.
