There are really only one of two places where you can work with just a high school education and no prior job experience. That is retail and the food industry. These jobs are considered to be very tedious, which they are, but I think everyone should at least work at one of the two.
Retail and the food industry both encompass very different tasks, but all with the main goal of having phenomenal customer service. In both jobs, you have to fake it until you make it with a plastered-on fake smile while each new customer unloads their needs. Trust me, you will learn the value of having things clean and how much hard work is put into keeping it that way as a little kid draws crayons all over the dinner table or someone grabs the shirt that's in the middle of the stack and lets the rest of the shirts topple to the ground. You will also learn how poorly we treat those in these service jobs. Have you ever left a whole stack of clothes in the dressing room? Or have you ever just left a dollar tip? You will soon get your fair dose of karma back if you work either of these two jobs.
But essentially, these two jobs are humbling. Most people don’t know the ins and out of retail or the food industry, because they think that those are jobs that are beneath them. That is the problem. By working either or both of these jobs, you will gain so much respect for those who serve you in everyday life.
