Have you ever picked up a book, looked at the cover or even the size of the book and immediately put it back down? You thought "the title doesn't seem very interesting, I mean did you see how many pages the author put into the book...I don't have time to read a book anyways." We judge someone's work within seconds of having possession of it. If you take a step a back and look at the big picture of a book, it is just like me and you.
We take one look at a person and assume their story. We believe we know their pages, the words that have built them as a person. We see only the dented corners of the book from being dropped too many times. We see the hard back and figure they are strong. We realize that there's not that many pages, which leads us to guessing that they haven't experienced much. We put them back on the shelf as soon as something isn't pleasing to us. The crazy thing about it all is that we didn't even take the time to read what the book says, or in better words, who the person was. Nor did we look to see who the author was.
For you, your book may have pages full of pictures that define you and what you've been through. For the person sitting across the room - yes, the lady who is struggling - I know you see her, everyone does. She's the one holding the screaming baby while trying to just write down the phone number for a job offer she found. Her story may only be twenty pages long, but within those short twenty pages, we could easily read that she's been through more than we ever have in one hundred pages. For the boy who walks to school everyday just so he doesn't have to wake his dad up after working the night shift again, his story may be in a book with one page because he doesn't say or do much because he doesn't have the same home life as you.
As for me, I want people to walk over to the shelf. Notice my book, pick it up, dust off the cover and understand that my pages are full of sin like theirs, some pages have been ripped down the sides, but God has taped them back together again. I want them to notice the illustrations of a life that has been lived not the same way as theirs for we are all different books. But most importantly, I want them to realize who my author is. Research the man that made me. Come to know about the author of my life. His perfect name is Jesus. Don't you want people to know your book as God's book? If that's the case, I challenge you to look up a book all about my author and the different series He has already written for many others. His book may be like yours as well, but you have to read it in order to understand Him.
