Odyssey Online is a fairly new company, and I would love to share the truth about what really goes down in the Odyssey. As a journalism major, I think it's really important to speak the truth in every article that is written. Odyssey is still a fairly new company and just like other companies, there are flaws that will initially be fixed. I'm writing this to answer any of the questions that you might have about Odyssey.
Let's start off by talking about what Odyssey is. This is a platform where college students can have a creative outlet, through writing. There isn't necessarily a specific topic that they have to write about, but if there is a holiday or an event coming up, the writers are more likely to write about that. Odyssey is made up of multiple people in order for the branch to run smoothly. There are the writers, editors, photographer, social media director and the editor-in-chief. You have to apply for all of these roles, just like any other job. You do not have to be an English, journalism or communication major to be a writer, but just someone that has a passion.
Even if you have a higher position at Odyssey, you also have to write. For instance, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the SUNY Fredonia branch, which means I edit other articles and still write my own. The higher up your position is, the more responsibility you are given. When it comes to payment, May was the launch of the page view payment, which simply means if you get a specific amount of page views for that month, you will get paid. An example of this would be 15,000 page views gets you $15. Also, for every branch there is the top article $20 reward. For each branch, there is a top article, and whoever gets the most shares for their school that week receives $20. So if you like an article that you've read, share it because it could really help someone out.
As far as teamwork goes, I can't say this for all branches, but my branch is great at team work. We have a group chat set up and use it to bounce around ideas and help each other out all the time. Whether it be about articles, when to share or even helping each other out with school-related subjects, we're always there for each other. I'm so glad I am a part of this community, and I would definitely advise you to join your school's branch (that includes incoming freshman). If you are currently part of Odyssey, take some time to thank your fellow creators and make some awesome content.
