The Thing About Time

Moments vs. Minutes

The Thing About Time
USF

The thing about time is that it's always moving. Even as you read this you are spending your time doing it. The thing about time is you can never have enough. Even when you want it to last or want to spend it on enjoyable things, the seconds move by and the minutes grow which changes hours and those to turns into days and et cetera. The thing about time is that it moves without us knowing it. You long and wait for things to happen and it is exciting to look forward to something.

The thing about time is that in moments it stands still. Some moments time no longer moves. It is the moments our heart decides to feel the time and to our heart time is never a focus. Our heart feels moments, not minutes. When you are having a genuine conversation you don't realize how long it lasts or what's going on around you, just the person and their words. The moment you have your first dance or first kiss with someone, it is moment. Whether it lasted seconds or a minute, time someone how stands perfectly still. A perfect 70 degree day with just he right amount of breeze and a blanket of sunshine - those days stand still. Yet they fly by in an instant and we long for the next one.

The thing about time is that the next amount of time we are awaiting is never promised. The thing about time is that it is a blessing, every single second. The thing about time is that we tend to want it to rush until the time we enjoy and want. Like annoying car rides or drives or hours doing homework, we all want that part of time to go by quicker or be over with, when really we should find the best in that time. Drives gives us the time to sit and do nothing but drive. Focusing on one task allows us to fall into the deepest thoughts while your vehicle travels you to much more than a physical destination. Driving is the best time to bring yourself to decisions and thoughts you've been avoiding. Driving is a vehicle of much more than travel.

The thing about time is before you know it elementary school is beyond history and you're half way through college wondering and stressing about what the next chapter holds. Life is full of moments and so much time. But time moves on and eventually runs out. So take advantage of the time we have and live in the moments, because no matter how much time we think we have, somehow it always runs out.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
