Dear Mom,
First, let me start by saying this letter is far overdue. In a perfect world, I would have realized years ago how self-sacrificing and giving you have been as my mother. I never truly understood the effort and devotion you put into being my mom and couldn't thank you enough for always having my best interests at heart.
Thank you for loving me even when I am unlovable. During those times when I have been disrespectful, selfish, and inconsiderate, you still chose to love me and show me the power of kindness.
Thank you for making time in your busy schedule to listen to me call and vent about the current day’s problems even if it’s 2 AM. I couldn't ask for a better mentor and counselor. You know exactly what to say to wipe away all my worries and make me feel better.
Thank you for being that constant ray of sunshine in my life and perpetually staying positive despite the hard times. Even when life gets difficult you keep that smile on your face and think about everything we have to be thankful for. You taught me to keep my head up during tough moments and to think about all that I have to be grateful for instead of focusing on the negative.
Thank you for letting me sleep in your bed on those nights when I experienced nightmares. Yes, even though you probably preferred a good night’s sleep, you let me squish into bed next to you, wiggling around all night, and keeping you up.
Thank you for somehow finding all of those items I lost and spent hours looking for. It’s a special mom power knowing exactly where I misplaced my favorite shirt or shoes.
Thank you for being my biggest supporter throughout the process of finding myself. You have faith in my abilities and instill that confidence within me to achieve my goals. There is no one else who could provide me with the courage and determination to attain my dreams and aspirations.
Thank you for teaching me the power of forgiveness. Thank you for encouraging me to leave grudges behind and to find acceptance for those who have hurt me. You proved that possessing grace and compassion enables the heart to be lighter and happier.
Thank you for inspiring me. You motivate me to be kind-hearted, healthy, strong, and independent. You are my role model and the woman I aspire to be.
Thank you for hugging me when you know I need it. When I’m crying, cranky, heartbroken, or stressed, you know exactly when I am in need of your tender love and care.
Thank you for dropping everything to help me. There is no one more selfless than you.
Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for binge watching the Bachelor with me and making late night froyo runs when we are both craving chocolate ice cream.
And most importantly, thank you for being my mother and the first person who provided me with unconditional love.
Love,
