An issue a lot of Potterheads have is the vast difference between how Ginny is portrayed in the movies and the books. It is almost as if they are two separate characters. Book Ginny has a stronger personality. She is tough, a result of being raised with several brothers, and an awesome athlete, having made the Quidditch team two years in a row. She even substitutes for Harry twice when he is unable to play. The second time, the team won the championship game as a result of her skills. She also isn’t afraid to stand up for herself or her friends. In the sixth book, a Slytherin student makes a rude gesture towards Harry, and Ginny stands up for him saying, "Yeah, Zabini, because you're so talented... at posing." She also casts a hex on a guy who continuously badgers her with questions. Later, she flies into the same guy on her broomstick for trash talking her and her family during a Quidditch match.
Also, in the books, you are able to see her character develop and grow. When Ginny is first mentioned, she is just a scared, little girl with a major crush on Harry. She grows from that into a vivacious young woman who has almost every guy at Hogwarts pining for her.
Movie Ginny is the complete opposite. Her character is barely shown unless it is absolutely necessary to the plot. She might as well be an extra. Her three most memorable moments throughout the entire movie franchise, which is approximately 24 hours long, are when she gets kidnapped at 11 years old, when she awkwardly ties Harry’s shoes and……the third instance just slipped my mind. That is how memorable the character is.
