To The Survivors

This poem is something I have waited to put out there. I have tried ending my life more than I like to admit; but I am here, a survivor. Life goes hand in hand, happiness with pain. This is to remind all that have felt like me that we can all survive, that life is worth every setback. Much love.

bloodshot eyes strengthless

not enough power left to blink

eyes red as wine from all of the tears

the bathroom floor has gone completely cold; like you

a nearly lifeless corpse lays there silent

contemplating the future

a bottle of pills clutched in one hand; a phone in the other

call your family your heart pleads out to you

yet you still lay there borderline lifeless

they did this to you after all of the wrapping pinkies together promising

they did this

outside your little bathroom window life goes on for the others

the day is blooming onward as your lay wilting

how can people be okay in a time like this?

how can people be okay when you are not?

but

they do not know you are not okay

blooming onward they cannot sense what lurks in your tiny bathroom

the tiny baby blue bathroom that once smelled of lavender and lilac

now it smells of cheap rum and despair

clutch on to that pill bottle more and more

clutch until you feel as if your hands may seep red with blood

this is the pain of heartbreak

pain you never thought you would experience; pain they promised

pinky after pinky

you would not lay wilting; they would always be there to make sure you bloom

bloom like the yellow sunflower in the black and white movie of a world

but you are now just wilted; dried up

pale skin with purple veins slowly stopping

a pill bottle that has become unclutched and empty

they did this to you; they left

but you did this to yourself; don't do this to yourself

don't leave everything behind

you will miss the smell of the freshly bloomed flowers outside of your tiny home

your grandmother; your savior

you want her to be the one to find you like this; lifeless?

pale skin with stopped purple veins

foaming at the mouth

you do not want this

life is meant for love

life is meant for heartbreak

happiness : pain

it all goes in hand

take the good with the bad please

the pain he is causing to you shall pass; like the abuse of your childhood

it will pass

do not gulp another pill

the bottle lays empty; the purple veins have stopped

no longer pulsating

they rush you to the hospital

pump his stomach

save him they plead; do whatever it takes

another pump; it comes up empty

a still body still lies there

pump it again

two once bloodshot eyes open slightly

no longer bloodshot; but green

green and new

new to this world

a survivor

the bottle may have been swallowed

yet your eyes are renewed

here you are green eyes

a survivor

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
